VISITING BEAUTIFUL MANCHESTER MEADOWS

A beautiful Autumn day in South Carolina, and what could be better than the whole family getting outside to experience and enjoy some family fellowship and fresh air. The sky was a beautiful clear blue and the grass was like polished jade dipped in diamond dust.
It has been said, "You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear." There might just be a few people in Rock Hill, South Carolina who would differ with that opinion. Manchester Meadows is a wonderful example of that difference.
For decades acres and acres of this land was used as a sewage disposal and solid waste dump. The smell was of course very coarse and offending. With the opening of the new Manchester Sewage treatment plant this area was no longer needed for it's usual purpose. However, business and residential contractors were very reluctant to try converting it for other uses. Admittedly, there was still some residual odor for a number of years. Finally after a lot of residential and business development around the new Galleria Mall a couple of miles down the road, the city of Rock Hill decided to convert this land use for another public purpose. Several other sports related projects in the city had done very well and it was noted that soccer was fasting gaining in acceptance, with most of the local schools sponsoring a soccer team. So the city decided to build a state of the art soccer center with a surrounding public park area. It would serve as a place for relaxation and enjoyment for the cities families as well be a drawing card for soccer tournaments from all over the area, thus providing a source of income and prestiege for the city. It has certainoly been successful with championship soccer fields and several soccer practice fields. While noted for it's primary athletic purpose it has also become a place of pride and beauty for the citizens of Rock Hill.
Pictured here is the family of Dane and Julie Buchanan with their sons Matthew and Jacob. Also along for the afternoon were Grandma Eleanor and Grandpa Glen enjoying some time together with family. The outing was concluded with some ice cream at the nearby McDonald's. It was a wonderful day for all.
