We love RV camping!
Our present motor home: 1997 Pace Arrow Model 37S
It has a Ford 460 engine with a Ford transmission and
is equipped with the Banks Power Pack.
A really great  motor home.
Being avid campers is nothing new to us. We've been camping one way or another all our life. Started out with blanket rolls and a pup tent. Gradually we went to larger tents and even had a pop-up tent trailor once. But having children does make tent camping in bad weather a little more difficult. And, believe me, we've done our share of camping in bad weather. Finally, back in about 1972 we got an 18 foot travel trailor. Man, we thought that was great. It even had a bathroom inside it! Now just try to imagine Mom and Dad and 5 children all camping in a little box 18 feet long and 7 feet wide. And that was with no air conditioning! Over the years we were able to move up to better trailor campers. By the time we had our last one it was really nice; a 27 foot Starcraft. Then I got sick and the hassle of hooking up, setting up, fixing up, leveling and all that goes into it just became too much. I either had to give up our camping trips or find an easier way. Turned out we were able to get a used 1988 35ft. Gulfstream motor home. No hooking up and hassle like the trailors, so we tried that and loved it. We were hooked on fully self contained, hydraulic leveling, totally equipped motor home camping. It's like always still being right at home even when you are hundreds of miles away. Your home is literally where you are. Having a motor home is not a hobby for those who worry about the cost of every little thing. But, any hobby costs money, and RV camping is a hobby. RV's have to be maintained and repaired but at the same time the freedom and enjoyment the RV provides is significant. Here are some pictures of some of the various campers we've enjoyed over the years.

This is the first motor home we have had that has a slide out. The extra amount of room is amazing.
Now we can have family and friends over for lunch and not be crowded.

1998 Vectra by Winnebago
This is the top of the line model for gas motor homes for that year. It was a beautiful camper and the quality construction and extras were very evident. It had a 454 Chevrolet engine. Only problem we had was a roof leak over the driver side window . Overall probably the best quality motor home we've had. Basement storage was huge. If only it had a slide out to give us just a little more living room area.

1992 Bounder  40ft.
This is the largest motorhome we had. I absolutely loved the layout. Two front doors and a driver's door. 1 and 1/2 bath. Very private bedroom in the rear. Everything was perfect EXCEPT the thing had not been taken good care of by the previous owner and the motor constantly broke down leaving us stranded. If it had been more reliable that is the motor home I would still have!
1992 Bounder  40ft.
This is the kind of trouble the Bounder was always causing. The big red wrecker is hauling us in at Conway, SC. The engine died in traffic causing me to lose brakeing and steering power. I had to literally wrestle the wheel and brake pedal to keep from plowing over the traffic in the intersection. It had a Ford 460 engine but it had been messed up so badly that I don't think anybody could fix it. After repeated incidents like this we just got rid of it.
1991 Cobra  34ft.
This was a really pretty motor home. Unfortunatelyit also had not been taken good care of by the previous owner. I can't understand why people would invest money in something like this and then not take care of it. Too many wiring problems and assorted odds and ends. Also seemed to have a lot of ants living in it. Got rid of it after the catalytic converter  cost me about $600 and left me stranded in Garden City, SC.
1988 Gulfstream  35ft.
This was our first motor home. We couldn't imagine how much better it was camping in the motorhome rather than in a trailor. This first one didn't have automatic levelers though and that made it a little harder for me since physical work is so hard for me now. It was a very roomy and nice motor home but just a little too old and worn out. The maroon part was originally gray but looked so bad that I hand painted it.
1998 Starcraft travel trailor  27Ft.
This was our last trailor camper of three or four we have had. It really was nice. Thefirst one we had with a private bedroom. Probably would have just kept trailor camping if I had not gotten sick. But the trailor just got to be too much hard work for me. Always pulled it with a Chevrolet Suburban and really enjoyed a lot of camping in it.
Plymouth Travel Van
This was our first "nice" van for camping. It had a sink, bed, and camp stove. Just the minimum stuff but could be plugged in to electric for power. When we got our first trailor we pulled it with this 6 cylinder van. Actually camped in this van for several years.
1970 Giles travel trailor 18Ft.
This was our first travel trailor. Picked it up in Charlotte, NC for just $1200. It was in pretty good shape and we used it for about ten years. Then kept it for awhile longer and used it as a pool house. Just imagine putting 7 people in there on a hot sweltering night. I finally was able to rig up a small window A/C for it. But for us and the kids this was really great camping. We just about lived at Huntington Beach, SC as much of the Summer as we could. Sometimes it would be time to go home and all the family would "take up an offering" to scrape up the 2 dollars and 50 cents for one more day!
